Need to find tool used to test temperature of ball bearings!!?
my mother in law said my father in law wants a tool that he saw that you put up to ball bearings and it will tell you how hot they are. that is the only description she gave us. We have called auto stores and no one knows what it is. She said you could get it online . We are getting this for a Christmas gift. Can anyone help? at least with the n ame of it. Thanks
Infrared thermometers are getting very common now and are available at most parts supply stores and hardware stores.
They will read a temperature from a distance just by aiming a laser at the item.
They are used for many other things as well.
When using them to check wheel bearing heat, remember the brakes will heat up a hub as well. Try to stop without the brakes before checking the temperature.
