What is the black tape for on the Chicago Bulls uniform during the 91-92 NBA Finals?
I’ve looked everywhere but I can’t find info on the small black patch that looked like a strip of black electrical tape on the Bulls’ front left shoulder. I’m looking at game 1 of the finals but i’m sure it was there on other games too. I’m just curious and i appreciate anyone who could help me get more information on this. thanks
That’s a great question. I had seen that several times over the years, but had never looked into it (until now).
It was to honor a long-time employee in the Bulls organization who had passed away.
Sheri L. Berto, who had been Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf’s long-time assistant, was very popular in the organization. On November 23, 1991, Sheri passed away suddenly from undiagnosed internal bleeding while a patient at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.
During the remainder of the 1991-92 season, the team wore black patches on their jerseys in memory of Sheri. When the team opened its new training facility in September of 1992, it was named the Sheri L. Berto Center.
