Single Face
Single Face

Are there any difficulties that single fathers face?
Chelsea- Exactly. Hardly anyone on here ever brings up this issue. I simply cannot imagine what that would be like.
The Man- You may continue to see things from your narrow vision. I can see how copy-paste has been working for you.
Shadow- Thank you for sharing your first hand experience.
Know-It-All — Thank you. I completely agree!
There are difficulties that single mothers and fathers face, but there are certain limitations that are unique to single fathers.
Off the bat, right when they leave the court, single fathers have to immediately work on his ability to disprove certain stereotypes that exist in the society — there’s a cultural bias toward females as the only acceptable nurturer by courts. Though it is heartening to note that this bias is weakening, single fathers still are challenged at their every step due to this stereotype.
Single fathers also face a common challenge that a single parent would face — that of acquiring adequate childcare. Childcare concerns are most stressful for single fathers with children between ages 5 and 11. But, single fathers face additional concerns not experienced as often by single mothers. Many men feel they are judged, as well as judge themselves, by their success at work. This often leads to strong internal conflicts over the amount of time they devote to work and the need to devote time to their children. Arriving late or leaving early, missing work, and having to reduce work
and work-related travel cause stress.
The social system is also set up to primarily help a single-mother over a father. It seems that many workers are not prepared to deal with a single father.
Fathers of adolescent daughters might find it to be a different challenge while trying to establish the level of intimacy that a mother would easily achieve simply by virtue of being a woman.
Men in general and single-fathers in particular these days are indeed willing to take up these challenges and prove to themselves, their kids, and the society that they can indeed be good parents. More fathers these days are requesting sole custody, and more mothers are choosing to not contest custody.
It isn’t completely a bed of roses but these fathers are learning it well and are indeed raising the bar for other single fathers to follow/measure themselves against.
