Do you need a Social Security card to open a bank account?
What type of I.D. is enough? A valid passport? A drivers license?
Or do you absolutely need a SS card to open an account?
Thanks!
OK, I can see some conflicting answers here. Can anyone convince me one way or another?
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account to be in compliance with Section 326 of the USA Patriot Act.
What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.
