What cartoon show has a better quality of humor Family Guy or South Park, and why?
I’m doing and independent survey on cartoon quality because there has been a big debate over which of these two shows as more quality for younger viewers. I know that I should have put the Simpson’s in there, but for right now I just want to know these two.
That’s a toughie.
South Park used to be the most brilliant social satire out there, but it’s starting to get a little long in the tooth. Recent episodes seem to focus more on being offensive than actually being funny. There are the occasional gems, but they’re getting more and more infrequent. This however is not a show for children in any way, shape or form. I don’t care if it’s a cartoon, it’s designed for adults.
Family Guy started off strong, but it quickly degenerated into a series of one liners and obvious jokes strung together with a thin narrative. It’s to the point now where the jokes have taken over and there’s no cohesion to it, it’s disjointed and quite frankly painful to watch. I still like Stewie and Quagmire, but even they can’t save the show. I’d say that this is a little more appropriate for children but not by much. Whereas the humour in South Park is a lot more crude, the humour in Family Guy is a lot more obvious which might appeal more to younger viewers. That’s not to say that children should watch it however.
So I’d say that out of the two of them I’d say South Park is better in terms of quality, but Family Guy would be more appropriate for children or younger viewers.
