Can small animals be shipped by Postal mail?

I’ve heard of people shipping animals like baby chicks and rabbits by mail, but what about cats?
I have a cat I need to get to Connecticut, and I know how horrible it sounds to send her in a box, but right now it’s about my only option. I don’t have $200+ to ride greyhound there. And if I don’t get her up she will have to go to a “kill” shelter
