Are we human the only animal that has pets and plants as a hobby?
There is a well documented case about a lioness that kept “adopting” young antelope babies. She would steel the young from the mother and keep it with her until it eventually died from starvation. This lioness repeated the behavior about 10 times (documented times).
There is also the case of the captive chimp that had a pet cat.
In the wild the only other thing that comes to mind are insects. There are several different insects that essentially farm other insects. Wasps, ants and other insects farm aphids for the honeydew they produce.
