How do you make those plastic buttons with custom pictures in them?
I’ve always seen these fun custom buttons everywhere… Are they easy to make?
You can buy these gadgets that are called button makers or badge makers that basically allow you to put the image you want on a button. The most basic machines cost around $30 and will make one size button. You put your image in a press and seal it to the button and add the pin. It takes maybe 30 seconds per button. Automatic button machines run around $800 on up. The biggest problem is creating the image you want in the right size. The right size will be slightly larger than the button so that you have some overlap over the edge (to eliminate a white edge) and putting enough on a piece of paper to lower the reproduction costs. Because if you want to make, for instance, 50 buttons, you have to have 50 buttons and 50 images. If you want the images in color and the button is 2-1/4″, the most economical way is usually five images per sheet because when you either print them on your color printer or copy them on a color photocopier, you want to get as many as possible per sheet.
