how many stamps for 9 x 12, metal clasp envelope that holds my grad school application?
i am not able to make it to the past office. the envelope contains about 10 pieces of paper in it. it is a school application. thank you.
A piece of paper weighs .013 oz each. That is without the ink and this is also just white copy paper. I am sure your using a heavy paper so, to be on the safe side you can go 1/4 oz per page, so 10 sheets would be 2 1/2 oz and your envelope could be 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz so I would make that 1 oz for a total of 3 1/2 oz. You would have to look at the postage web site http://postcalc.usps.gov/ to get your total but from Hawaii to Missouri it would cost me $1.34. I would put on $1.50 just to be on the safe side.
However for a good presentation you can go with a flat rate priority envelope for $4.95 and it will be insured and have a tracking number and a free delivery confirmation. You can buy the shipping label on line and print it out, cut it to fit and paste it the envelope. A flat rate envelope can weight up to 70 pounds but the top still has to close with the flap.
When the school opens it, your envelope inside will be clean and flat. almost like it was hand delivered. Better yet I would use a presentation folder. Remember you only look as good as what you send them. Not everybody get what they want so you should always try to do one better.
Oh, I almost forgot that when you buy your postage on line there is a box you can check to have them pick it up from your door if you can’t fit it in your mail box. It is a another included service with the cost of postage.
