Car air conditioners, what are the advantages/disadvantages between the recycled and fresh air setting?
the recycled setting is more colder, so is it better to run it this way?
If the inside of your car is extremely hot due to sitting in a sunny parking lot, it may be better to run it in fresh air mode until the temperature inside roughly matches the temperature outside, then switch to recycled mode.
Also, cigarette smoke (if such applies) is blown out of the car by the air coming in the car in fresh air mode, but not by the air in recycled mode. This could apply to, well, “digestive by-product” gases as well, or any other odor you don’t want lingering in your car.
If you are driving through the smelly part of town with all of the refineries, you may want it to be on recycled mode to prevent as much outside air from entering. If you are driving through the mountains after a rain, you may want fresh air mode to get that wonderful smell.
